The three variables

Most guys agonize over broadheads and guess at everything else.

A razor-sharp head on a shaft that's fighting your bow is a bad hit waiting to happen. These are the three decisions the builder actually walks you through — and why each one changes what happens on the far end.

01 / Spine

Does the shaft recover, or fight you?

Every arrow flexes off the string. Spine is how much. Too weak and it porpoises out of the rest; too stiff and it never settles — and a fixed-blade head will steer both.

The manufacturer's chart gets you to the right neighborhood off draw weight, draw length and point weight. From there it shifts with cam aggression and how clean your release is. You make the call — we build exactly what you spec.

02 / FOC

Where the weight sits decides what happens on impact.

Front-of-center is the percentage of the arrow's weight carried ahead of true center. Push it forward and the shaft drives straighter through bone and hide, and steers less in wind.

Push it too far and you buy that penetration with trajectory. Somewhere between 12–15% covers most whitetail hunting; 15–19% is where the elk and heavy-bone crowd lives.

03 / Fletching

How fast it settles down after the shot.

Vane height, length and helical decide how quickly the arrow stops wobbling. Shooting a fixed blade? You need more steering, sooner — that head is a wing out front working against you.

Mechanicals and field points forgive a lower profile, which buys you speed and less wind drift. It's a trade, and it should be a deliberate one.

Two things should come out of this. A set of arrows that looks like nothing else at the range — your wrap, your vane colors, your crest. And a build sheet you actually understand: your length, your spine, your FOC, every one of them chosen on purpose instead of inherited from whatever was hanging on the rack.

Shaft, length, nock, insert, point weight, vane and wrap. Every change updates your weight and FOC in front of you, so you're not guessing at the science while you pick colors. Build something that looks the way you want and knows its own numbers. Nothing is preloaded — you spec the whole thing.

Shafts are cut to the length you gave us, inserts installed and left to cure properly, and vanes set in a jig to the helical you picked. Built to the spec on your sheet, not close to it.

Before you build

The questions we actually get.

No, but the choice is yours to make. The builder doesn't pick a spine for you — you select it. What you do have is the shaft manufacturer's spine chart: cross your draw weight against your draw length and point weight and it gives you the spine they recommend for that shaft.

Start there. If your setup lands on a boundary between two spines — short draw with heavy points, or a fast cam near the top of a range — send us your numbers and we'll tell you which side we'd land on and why. Then you call it.

Measure carbon to carbon. End of the shaft to end of the shaft — not from the nock. Nock lengths vary between brands and models, so a nock-to-tip number means something different on every setup. Carbon to carbon is the only measurement that transfers.

Watch the front end too. If you're running an insert-outsert combo, or any collar that sleeves back over the outside of the shaft, don't measure to the back of that hardware. Measure to where the carbon actually ends.

Changing rests or draw length? Tell us in the order notes before we cut — carbon doesn't grow back.

Heavier arrows carry more momentum and penetrate better, and they're quieter out of the bow. They also drop faster, which punishes a misranged shot. For most whitetail hunting inside 40 yards the trade is worth it. For open-country shooting where you might range wrong by ten yards, it isn't automatically. Build to the shot you actually take.

We can't promise that, and nobody honestly can. We build the arrow to the spec you order — correct length, correct components, assembled and fletched right. How it flies out of your bow depends on your bow: center shot, rest contact, cam timing, nocking point, and your release.

Tuning is on you. That's not us dodging — it's just how archery works, and it's the same whether you buy custom or pull a dozen off a shelf. If something arrives built wrong against what you ordered, tell us and we'll make it right.

Six-arrow minimum, sold by the half dozen. Most hunters order a dozen so practice arrows and hunting arrows come off the same build sheet — which is the whole point of matching them.
